Mathematics education in Japan

NAFADISE with Takeshi Miyakawa, Joetsu University of Education

Mathematics education in Japan

The main purpose of this talk is to share some aspects of the actual state of Japanese mathematics education (and Japanese education in general). The topics vary from mathematical knowledge actually taught in Japan to teaching practice, teachers’ practice outside of classroom (professional development), and practical and scientific research on education in Japan. In order to better understand and organize some facts that can be observed in Japanese mathematics education, some didactical frameworks originated in France (e.g., didactic transposition, praxeology) will be sometimes used, and some analyses of national curricula, textbooks, etc. will be presented.

The talk is open to all interested parties.
