Evaluation of Study Reform

The Faculty of Science carried through a comprehensive study reform in 2004 which for instance included a rearrangement of the teaching from semester structur to 'block' structure with four annual teaching blocks. The evaluation of the study reform has run parallel in three tracks in autumn 2007:

    1. qualitative analysis prepared by the Department of Science Education (DSE).
    2. A statistical analysis on basis of data in the study-administrative systems worked out by the study administration.
    3. An administrative analysis which enlightens the needed revisions due to changes in the executive order and other external factors and needed revisions as a result of administrative changes and needs for service improvement. This analysis is worked out be the study administration.

The deanery asked DSE to contribute to the evaluation with a qualitative analysis of the study reform. The evaluation was carried through over a short period in September - November 2007. We have therefore not been able to make an actual investigation at course level, nor compare the contents and demands with previous teaching. But we have through a lot of contact with students, study counsellors, administrators, lecturers, and heads of teaching been able to make a clear picture of how a series of the reform's aspects have outplayed.

Participants from DSE

Kjeld Bagger Laursen and Christine Holm

Jens Erik Wang (the statistical analysis) and Pernille Wingesø Falk (the administrative analysis) from the study administration have participated to the other parts of the evaluation.
