Abstract of project description
The project will study first-year students at three study programmes at the University of Copenhagen – two at the humanities and one at the sciences. The study will explore how students at the programmes develop a particular study practice and student identity and through this how they contribute to the construction of a study culture at the programme. Taking the students’ perspective and the students’ experiences as a point of departure, the PhD project will study the interaction between on the one hand the students and on the other, the institutional framing of the students’ study activities. This framing includes the teachers, the peers, the teaching and learning activities, the curriculum, the extracurricular activities as well as activities outside the university. The study will be conducted using qualitative methods.

The PhD project will be accompanied by another project that also includes quantitative analyses of, inter alia, students’ trajectories before and within the programme, student experiences with teaching and student identification with the programme subject.
