Doing Physics? Doing Gender

- Perspectives from physics education research

NAFADISE med Anna Danielsson, PhD, Uppsala Universitet, Sverige

I will in this presentation explore how physics students constitute identities as physicists in relation to their participation in laboratory work, with a particular focus on the gendered experience of learning to become a physicist.

Theoretically my points of departure are situated learning theory and post-structural gender theory, which are combined into a theoretical framework that allows for an analysis of the physics students? simultaneous doing of physics and doing of gender. In the presentation I will share some empirical outcomes of my research and talk about some of the theoretical and methodological challenges I have encountered working in the interdisciplinary area of physics education research.

The talk will be held in English - it is open to all interested people.
