SETAC - Science Education As a Tool for Active Citizenship

The EU-project "SETAC" aims to improve students' motivation towards science by investing in their education but also in teachers. The consortium consists of formal and informal educators at European level who works on the development of connections between expertise of schools, universities and science museums, and on methods aiming to improve the quality of science education, both in schools and in museums.

The project includes 8 institutions distributed on 5 countries (Belgium, Denmark, Italy, Germany and Hungary) and is coordinated by The National Museum of Science and Technology Leonardo da Vinci in Milan.

SETAC will develop activities for schools that aim to give the students knowledge about science-related topics within health, energy, and climate change, raise awareness of the role of science and technology in contemporary society, and create dialogue on cutting-edge science.

Furthermore, SETAC will develop European in-service training course for primary and secondary school teachers. The course is designed in such a way as to engage participants in debate and exploration of issues which are related to science education and active citizenship. Such issues are e.g. the role of science in everyday life, young people's motivation in science, and science as tool for teaching and learning.
