Implementation of qualification frame at SCIENCE

The faculty and the study board have decided to implement the new Danish qualification frame for higher education programmes which was passed in 2008. The main argument for the above is that the qualification frame is now a part of the legislation as a tool that applies for accreditation of new and already existing educational programmes. It is therefore a great advantage for this tool to be in use when the accreditation will take place. At the same time these ideas are identical with the ideas that are used in the European frame of educational qualification which in the future will be used for comparison of the students' learning gain when the programmes are compared across Europe.

When it comes to an implementation at SCIENCE it is first of all about using the qualification frame's description of the learning gain which is defined in three categories: competences, skills and knowledge. This means that the curricula's § 1 (and for same cases also § 2), which is about aim and competences and what the student is supposed to be able to do, has to be rewritten to concern competences, skills and knowledge.

Department of Science Education has developed a guide (link to Danish version: vejledning)for that purpose and assists the study board and the head of studies in the work through sparring, meetings and seminars.

Next step is to transform the descriptions of the courses so that it is in agreement with the learning goals and concept use of the new curricila. This is expected to happen in the academic year 2009/10.
