Abstract:

This presentation reports part of the results of an international comparative study on the nature of fractions in parry school arithmetic. To clarify how the natures of fractions differs across countries, textbooks from two countries, France and Japan, are analysed within the framework of the Anthropological theory of the Didactic, in particular the notion of praxeology. The analysis reveals several differences at the level of praxis. In addition, although similar types of tasks are proposed in both countries, the techniques and logos associated with these types of tasks differ.
