Mathematical Modelling Futures: Compelling Directions for Research
Speaker
Prof. Vince Geiger, Australian Catholic University, Brisbane
Abstract
Global challenges, including the impacts of the environment crisis, societal disruptions, and the emergence accessible big data and AI, have implications for the direction of mathematical modelling education. In this presentation, I will draw on both my research, and that of others, to speculate what research needs to be done to inform curriculum of compelling changes that must be made to prepare young people for a world that is shaping to be so dramatically different to any previous generation. The presentation will provide opportunity to discuss not only the challenges faced by young people but how education can foster the agency and critical capabilities needed to be adaptive and to find solutions.
