Lesson study in mathematics - outside of Japan
Speaker: Carl Winsløw
Abstract:
Lesson study in mathematics has two (a priori) different functions: a paradidactic infrastructure, serving to develop teacher knowledge of mathematics and mathematics education; and a research method to investigate didactical praxeologies, particularly the logos level. In Japan these two purposes seem largely intertwined while in the West, they are more separate. We shall present a theoretical analysis of these roles, in part based on the history of lesson study in Japan and in the West.
