Conclusion: Configurations of interdisciplinarity: Justifications, re-organisations and new forms of disciplining

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingBook chapterResearchpeer-review

The conclusion returns to the question of what characterises the disciplining, which is unavoidably taking place in efforts to realise interdisciplinarity. The conclusion reflects on dynamics that cut across the chapters of the volume and may be said to form broader complexities or tendencies involved in the configurations of interdisciplinarity across the Danish educational system. The conclusion examines the justifications, reorganisations and new forms of disciplining associated with interdisciplinarity today. In doing so, the conclusion argues that a central tension appears between the ways in which current calls for more flexibility are accompanied by more standardised procedures of educational processes. The tension manifests how classic progressive efforts to stress general education becomes entangled with new forms of accountability, assessability and responsibility, demanding at the same time more flexible individuals and more specialised and measurable performances.
