N2 - Teachers in science and mathematics education face many challenges ascurricula around the world turn towards STEM education as a way ofensuring that students acquire competencies that transcend traditionalsubjects. However, implementing competency-oriented teaching has provedchallenging. KOMPIS was a project that aimed at developing ways of dealingwith some of these challenges. In this paper, we present a two-dimensionalmodel derived from KOMPIS that has been demonstratively useful insupporting competence-based curriculum development and teacher planning.
