Learning outcome

The aim of this course is to introduce you to your new role as PhD student at the Faculty of SCIENCE and to offer you insight and tools to manage your project, research education, work/life balance and the collaboration with your supervisor(s). The course is a combination of lectures, discussions, exercises and social networking activities.

After the course, the participants will be able to:

  • develop plan and career goals
  • collaborate with supervisors and co-manage your supervisory relationships
  • maintain Work/Life balance and stress management
  • make oral presentations
  • provide and receive feedback
  • succeed in the writing process
  • carry out project planning and management
  • map personal and professional competence and plan competence development

  • take charge of their PhD studies

During the 4-day course, we alternate between lectures, discussions and exercises. You will work on your own Personal Development Plan (PDP) during and after the course. As part of the assignment, you will discuss your PDP with your supervisor(s), so please make an appointment to meet with her/him/them 1-2 weeks after the course for this purpose. After submitting the PDP, you will receive feedback on your work.

The requirements for passing and receiving credits for this course are active participation throughout the four course days, providing feedback on two Personal Development Plans (PDP), as well as receiving and responding to feedback on your PDP from two other course participants.
