The Math Bridge - and a diagnostic test

DidMat-seminar with Britta Jessen and Caroline Poulsen

Abstract

For several years Silkeborg Gymnasium has worked on transition issues in mathematics from lower secondary to high school. In 2015 the A.P. Møller Mærsk Foundation accepted a project called The Math Bridge applied by the municipalities of Silkeborg and Copenhagen. The municipalities, Silkeborg Gymnasium and Gefion Gymnasium joined together with Department of Science Education in designing in-service teacher courses for 80 mathematics teachers from lower secondary. The courses offer teachers new tools to analyse and design teaching to support the students in transition from lower secondary to high school. Department of Science Education are providing the high schools with a diagnostic test to show the effect of the lower secondary teaching for students who have had teachers attending the course activity.

The seminar will give a short presentation of The Math Bridge, including project design, however emphasis will be put on a first version of the diagnostic test, which we would like to have the participants reflections on.
