What can Study and Research Paths add to mathematical modelling?

Abstract:

The seminar will present the result of a – not yet completed – collaboration with Berta Barquero, University of Barcelona, where we try to emphasise what Study and Research Path (SRP) based designs adds to the teaching of mathematical modelling. We regard different approaches to the teaching and learning of mathematical modelling as reference epistemological models (REM). We present a number of versions of REM, e.g. different modelling cycles. Based on our own research we present the approach to modelling proposed by the Anthropological Theory of the Didactics (ATD) and from these we discuss differences and similarities in REM’s.
