Danish math teacher education in an international perspective

Speaker: Carl Winsløw, IND

Abstract:

One of the most difficult and delicate issues of research in didactics of mathematics concern the preparation of new mathematics teachers for various levels. What should they know? How can they best be supported in gaining this knowledge? For instance, what kind of mathematical knowledge is needed? Etc.

In this talk I will first outline some recent international research focusing on the effects on mathematics teacher education on both mathematics teacher knowledge, and the outcome of the teachers' teaching. I will then try to situate Danish teacher education (for primary and secondary levels) in the picture and proposing some pathways for ATD based research which could deepen the picture and help strengthening the basis for making necessary decisions.
