Nr. 40/2015 Science Moves - Report on a series of workshops where the public engage with scientific ideas through kinaesthetic models

The project Science Moves was created to explore didactic and expressive questions in using kinaesthetic exercises to learn about science. It was an activity, offered in the context of Science in the City, a science communication “fair”, which was the public side of the conference European Science Open Forum, held at Carlsberg, Copenhagen, June 2014. We developed material in collaboration with researchers in the fields of motor control engineering, past disaster science, and synthetic biology and held several workshops where participants enacted kinaesthetic models to represent scientific ideas. We learned about the conditions for collaboration with expert scientists, interactions with the general public and identified several kinaesthetic mechanisms.
